Finding Chika by Mitch Albom Chika Jeune was born three days before the devastating earthquake that demolished Haiti in 2010. She went through her earliest stages in a scene of extraordinary poverty, and when her mother passed on giving birth to a baby brother, Chika was brought to The Have Faith Haiti Shelter that Albom works in Harbour Au Prince. With no children of their claim, the forty-plus children who live, play, and go to school at the shelter have become family to Mitch and his spouse, Janine. Chika’s entry makes a fast impression. Courageous and confident, indeed as a three-year-old, she delights the other kids and instructors. But at age five, Chika is all of a sudden analyzed with something a specialist there says, “No one in Haiti can assist you with.”
